April 2008
To the Residents of Westlake and Four Seasons at Metedeconk Lakes,
On behalf of the Jackson Educational Foundation (JEF) I would like to thank all of the residents for your more than generous gift of $20,000 to the JEF. This gift goes a long way to disproving the theory that “Seniors” vote down school budgets instead of recognizing the fact that people with children in the school district don’t come out to vote.
The founding of the JEF was spearheaded by people from the adult communities with the purpose to make a difference by supplying educational items that the budget would not allow for. In 2007, our first year of fundraising, we purchased “SMARTboards” for the elementary schools along with providing “mini-grants” to fund innovative educational projects as well as establishing a scholarship program.
The gifts received from the Westlake and Metedeconk communities will go a long way toward funding this year’s projects. Last fall, the Needs Assessment Committee of the JEF met to determine where our fund raising efforts should be directed for 2008. The forty plus active Foundation members then set in action a series of fund raising events to bring these projects to fruition. We are proud to announce with the help of this major gift, we are able to meet these goals in spite of the present economic climate. This year’s gifts to the school district will include:
- laptop computers along with LCD projectors and screens to Jackson Memorial High School and the Goetz and McAuliffe Middle Schools (Jackson Liberty was built with these technological advancements)
- an expanded scholarships and mini-grant program
- recognition to our Teachers of the Year
- baby grand piano purchased for the Liberty High School Auditorium
We were asked to replace the entrance sign at Memorial High School with a new digital electronic sign to announce various events and to highlight student academic achievement. Your generous gift will now ensure the fact that we achieve this year’s goals of providing all of these exciting improvements to the Jackson School District.
Our final fundraiser is a Carnival set for Saturday, June 7th from noon to 3:00 PM at Jackson Memorial High School Boys’ Soccer Field, with games, rides, clowns (including the Blue Claws very own mascot “Buster”), food, pony rides etc. All proceeds will be used for the purchase of program equipment and materials for Special Needs Children in the district. We hope you will mark the date on your calendar and bring your grandchildren!
Again, on behalf of the Foundation,
Thank you,
Marty Spielman, President
